Sleep Dentistry
Brent J. Porter D.D.S. and Team work hard to ensure that your child has a safe, comfortable, and positive dental experience. We recognize that some patients may feel extremely anxious, may need extensive dental treatment, or have a very small mouth which limits their ability to cooperate in the dental chair. Your child may also have special cooperative needs that prevent conventional methods of dentistry. That’s why we are pleased to offer “sleep dentistry” with one of our experienced anesthesiologists.
“Sleep dentistry” using IV sedation or intravenous sedation is a form of anesthesia commonly used in dental offices to help children relax and undergo dental procedures safely and comfortably. An anesthesiologist comes to our office and provides a deeper level of sedation, eliminating all fears and ensuring that Dr. Porter can complete dental treatment safely while efficiently completing all needed restorative work in one visit.
Our staff anesthesiologist is solely focused on your child using state of the art monitoring equipment to keep your child safe and asleep during the whole procedure and will stay with your child until they are fully awake. This usually takes about 20 minutes after the procedure is complete. The beauty is that your child will have no memory of the dental restorative experience.
We want to assure you that going forward, your child’s dental health can take on a new beginning. Children are blessed with two sets of teeth. Like training wheels on a bike, the primary teeth are a “trainer set.” If they learn how to care for their primary teeth now, their adult teeth will have a healthy start for the rest of their life.
